Mounir Samuel
This provocative dramatised talk sees political scientist, author and performance artist Mounir Samuel challenging the audience on the subject of his possible departure from Europe. His father migrated to the Netherlands and now Mounir is contemplating becoming a reverse migrant. The ‘old continent’ still holds an attraction, but for many relative newcomers the European dream has become a nightmare. Mounir feels he has little choice left now but to leave.
In this deeply personal and political talk Mounir details the impacts of the post 9/11 era, a quarter century of identity politics and the rise of the extreme right in Europe. His unique perspective sheds a whole new light on our newspaper headlines. He invites the audience to be truthful, and to ask themselves whether they would open the borders and let him in. Will they convince him to stay?
