Dominique Himmelsbach de Vries is a social designer and artist who does not shy away from sensitive subjects in our polarised contemporary society. Wilderswebwinkel.nl started in reaction to the 2012 arts funding cutbacks and the demonstrations that followed. Dominique Himmelsbach de Vries responded to the neoliberal-driven demand that artists become entrepreneurs by creating an online shop dedicated to Geert Wilders, the leader of the Dutch far right party, the PVV. Here you can buy Geert Wilders merchandise like T-shirts, bags and duvet covers. The PVV won the last general election, in 2023, with almost 24 per cent of the vote. It was the biggest far-right win in the Netherlands since World War II. The shop is now a growing platform for artists to engage with Geert Wilders and apply his populist strategy through art, and the project as a whole embodies the mind-set of cultural entrepreneurship promoted by the current cabinet.
