CURATORIAL SUPPORT INTERN

IMPAKT FESTIVAL 2027

Internship period: 1 December 2026 – at least 23 April 2027
Location: Utrecht, The Netherlands
Application deadline: 1 November 2026

IMPAKT [Centre for Media Culture] is looking for a motivated and organised Curatorial Support Intern to join the team working on the 2027 IMPAKT Festival, TRAUMA TRAFFICKING, curated by Ine Gevers and Cecile van Bruggen.

TRAUMA TRAFFICKING explores how trauma is increasingly presented, circulated, and commodified within contemporary culture, particularly through the intersections of technology, media, identity, and systems of power.

About the internship

As a Curatorial Support Intern, you will work closely with the festival curators and support them throughout the development and production of TRAUMA TRAFFICKING. You will be involved in the day-to-day practical and organizational aspects of the curatorial process and gain insight into the development of a contemporary art festival, from the early stages of curatorial research and artist communication through to production and presentation.

While curatorial support will be your main priority, the internship also offers opportunities to gain experience across other areas of IMPAKT’s work. We believe in giving interns a diverse set of tasks and the opportunity to learn about the many facets of working in the cultural field. Depending on your interests and the needs of the organisation, you may therefore also support other departments, such as production, exhibition hosting, and PR and communications.

Your main tasks will include:

  • Supporting the curators in their meetings with artists and other collaborators.
  • Attending meetings and taking minutes, keeping track of decisions and action points.
  • Communicating with artists and other project partners.
  • Gathering, organising, and maintaining documentation.
  • Supporting the preparation and circulation of information and materials.
  • Conducting research and providing other curatorial support where needed.
  • Assisting the curators and wider team with the development and production of the festival.
  • Providing occasional support to other departments, such as production, exhibition hosting, and PR and communications.
  • Assisting with general organisational and practical tasks related to IMPAKT’s programmes, events, and day-to-day activities.

The internship will begin with a handover period during the first two weeks, during which you will work alongside the current Curatorial Support Intern. This will allow you to become familiar with the ongoing projects, artists, documentation, and ways of working before taking over the position.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone with a strong interest in contemporary art, digital culture, media and technology, and the themes addressed by IMPAKT. An interest in the themes explored by TRAUMA TRAFFICKING is a plus.

You should be organised, communicative, and comfortable working independently, as well as in a team. Attention to detail is important, as the role involves keeping track of different conversations, documents, and ongoing tasks. You should also be proactive, willing to take initiative, and comfortable communicating with artists and collaborators.

We expect interns to have a solid academic or practical background in contemporary art, cultural studies, curating, or a related field. Previous experience in a cultural organisation, curatorial project, or arts production and administration is an advantage, but we are also interested in applicants who demonstrate strong knowledge of and enthusiasm for the field.

At IMPAKT, we consider interns a vital part of the team. We expect our interns to engage enthusiastically and independently with their responsibilities.
